An accident on the BRT corridor late on Sunday night claimed a life and left four others injured. The police said the incident took place near the Moolchand flyover in Southeast Delhi at 1.15 am. The deceased was identified as 22-year-old Mohan Gupta.
The police said Gupta,who worked as a driver with Priya Tours and Travels,had gone to Nizamuddin in a Toyota Qualis owned by the company to collect payment. He later picked up his friends Vivek Kumar (24),Kalu (15),Deepak (22) and Rahul Singh (18) to go for a drive.
The police said Vivek,who was driving,lost control over the vehicle while descending from the Moolchand flyover and moving towards LSR College. An eyewitness told the police that the car swerved while trying to avoid a motorcycle and crashed into a divider on the BRT corridor. After the hitting the divider,the car collided with a streetlight.
The Qualis crashed into the divider on its right. Gupta was sitting on that side. A bystander called the Police Control Room,who took all five victims to the AIIMS Trauma Centre. Gupta died during treatment early on Monday,while three others were discharged after treatment. Vivek is still undergoing treatment his condition is stated to be out of danger, a senior police officer said.
The police said Gupta was a resident of Malviya Nagar. He was to get married next month,his parents told the police. His employer is one Bharat Kumar Gupta,owner of Priya Tour and Travels in Dakshinpuri. Vivek is employed as a driver,while Deepak is a salesperson and Rahul is a student of Birla Vidya Niketan,officials added.
A case has been registered.
