Days after he was reported missing, a 42-year-old manager at a multinational company in Gurgaon returned home on Friday, police said.
He had gone to Ayodhya in “search of peace”, they added.
Police said the man, Ajay Srivastava, was stressed about loans that he had taken from a few people.
Around 5 am on Sunday, Ajay left home in his car. On Monday morning, his car — a white Santro — was found unlocked and abandoned near a canal in Dwarka’s Kakrola in Delhi. Police were alerted about the vehicle through a PCR call, and a team visited the spot.
“There were no signs of a struggle… and no suspicious material was found inside the vehicle,” the police had said in a statement. A missing persons report had been filed, it added.
“Teams combed the canal using a forklift and an earthmover… Fire department officials, too, visited the spot and divers from the Rescue Boat Club searched the water,” a police officer had said. But nothing was found.
Using the car’s registration number, police managed to trace the owner, Ram Naresh Srivastava — he turned out to be Ajay’s father.
According to Ram Naresh, Ajay, who lives in Najafgarh’s Nangli Vihar, had been working from home for some time.
“According to his relatives, Ajay did not have problems with his family members. The family did not raise any allegations or suspicions,” an officer had said.
Describing the missing person, police had said that Ajay is 5 feet 7 inches tall, fair-complexioned with a round face and medium build. He was last seen wearing a green full-sleeved shirt, blue jeans, and black sports shoes.
On Friday, to his family’s surprise and relief, Ajay returned home. He told police that he was under the burden of debt and wanted some peace, the officer added.
Police said that Ajay’s medical examination is being conducted, and he will also be counselled.
Ajay had also formatted his mobile phone before going to Ayodhya. “He tried to mislead the police by staging his disappearance to escape the financial burden,” the police officer said.
Several CCTVS were also checked and his location was later traced in Ayodhya, where he stayed in a dharmshala, the officer added.
