The crime scene,BSP MP Dhananjay Singhs residence in South Avenue, was heavily dressed up,indicating an attempt to destroy crucial evidence in the murder of the help, police said on Tuesday.
Police sources said officers who inspected the crime scene found that there had been an attempt to wash bloodstains in the bungalows backyard.
During investigations, police officers were informed about a third help Meena (30). Sources said another 17-year-old help alleged that the MPs wife Jagriti also tortured Meena. Dhananjay allegedly began looking for Meena as soon as he returned to the capital on Monday.
Investigating officers alleged that the couple had tried to wash off bloodstains, but had not wiped them off completely.
In a press conference held late on Tuesday,Joint Commissioner of Police (New Delhi range) Mukesh Meena confirmed the arrest of Dhananjay and his wife in connection with the murder.
During the day,the couple destroyed all evidence connecting them to the case.
The MP should have informed police when he learnt about the incident, but we were informed more than 12 hours later around 7.45 pm, JCP Mukesh Meena said.
Footage from the 20 cameras in the house has reportedly gone missing.
Police said the couple had removed the footage. Police suspect that the footage shows Jagriti torturing Rakhi in the past 15 days.
The video footage is missing. The backyard of the house was also cleaned during the day. This is destruction of evidence, a senior police officer said.
Dhananjay has been booked on charges of abetment to the crime.
Police said the 17-year-old domestic help, was from Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh and was brought to the capital by Dhananjay a year ago.
The two helps had complained to Dhananjay regarding his wifes torture but he did not stop her. He was aware of the torture of these two helps. Further investigation is on, JCP Meena said.
Police sources said the timing and cause of death would become clearer after the post-mortem examination is conducted on Wednesday.
