If you think that the ghazal is a dead genre,dont mention it to Sudeep Banerjee,the Delhi-based ghazal singer who is counted among the countrys most promising names. Banerjee,40,who has released three successful albums in the past few years,is now ready with his fourth offering,an untitled project that will be launched by Sa Re Ga Ma. It will include Sufi melodies with verses from Bashir Badr and Nida Fazli. A regular performer who has accompanied the likes of Mehdi Hasan and Ghulam Ali,Banerjee is also a Bollywood regular. Though there are two films in the pipeline,the film I really want to see on the screen is Sagar Sarhadis film Chausar. I got Jagjit Singh to sing to my compositions,this was only the second time that the maestro has sung a composition that was not his own, he says.
