Jayant Kumar Das, a resident of Lado Sarai, is scared. The condition of his seven year-old son Lakshya Prakash, who “recovered” from dengue a few days ago, has deteriorated. On Tuesday night, Das’s neighbours Laxman Chandra Rout and Babita had committed suicide, hours after their seven-year-old son Avinash succumbed to dengue. Das, along with the couple, had made the rounds of several hospitals to get Avinash admitted on Tuesday morning. Avinash’s condition had also improved before it deteriorated drastically, pointed out Das. [related-post] Speaking to The Sunday Express, he said, “Prakash’s condition has deteriorated this evening, his fever is not going down. I don’t know what to do and I am very scared. I am not even with my family”. He decided to send his family members to Meerut so that they could get away from the shadow of grief hanging over the building, said Das, adding that even he had moved to his relative’s residence in Vaishali. It has been a traumatic few days, he said, with “the child’s post-mortem, his last rites, and finding the parents’ bodies. I even cremated them later”. “The deaths took a toll on all of us. My child was very frightened after the incident and I started to panic. I sent them to our relative’s residence, “ said Das. Now, he cannot imagine going back to his residence at Lado Sarai, said Das. “I can’t go back to my house anytime soon. I could see their bodies from my window. Only minutes earlier, I had talked to them. I still have their house keys,” he added.
