Noida: ‘Sharpshooter’ held with AK-47 after encounter

An AK-47 was recovered from a sharpshooter of the Randeep Bhati gang who was arrested after an encounter with the Noida STF and police. The accused, Umesh Pandit, had been absconding for many years and is alleged to be working at the behest of Bhati, who was arrested in 2015.

“The accused was arrested in Noida after information was developed by the Special Task Force, and Gautam Budh Nagar Police assisted. An AK-47 was recovered from his possession. He received a bullet injury as he opened fire while trying to escape,” said Vaibhav Krishna, SSP, Gautam Budh Nagar.

A reward of Rs 50,000 had been declared on Pandit and he had allegedly been involved in more than 20 cases, including attempt to murder and kidnapping, police said.
