for admission of successful candidates. (Representative)A significant number of seats remained vacant after the computerised draw of lots was conducted for admissions under the children with special needs (CWSN) category at private unaided recognised schools. The process was conducted by the Directorate of Education Wed-nesday for entry-level classes.
Of around 6,400 available seats, around 5,100 remained vacant, while around 1,300 seats were allocated.
A total of 689 candidates were allotted seats at nursery or pre-school level, leaving 3,357 seats vacant. While 226 candidates secured seats at kindergarten or pre-primary level, 958 remained vacant. For Class 1,392 candidates were allotted seats with 2,156 seats still vacant.
Earlier, the Education Department had postponed the computerised draw of lots for CWSN admissions from the first week of March to Wednesday due to an inadequate number of applicants, as cited in a department circular.
A senior official in the Education Department said, “The issue of high vacancies for CWSN categories always comes up. There is a mandatory 3% reservation but the number of applicants remains very low.”
