A day after a road signage fell during a thunderstorm near DLF mall in Noida Sector 18, officials have been directed to carry out a survey of all signages, hoardings and uni-poles across Noida.
“Project engineers will check if these structures are being maintained as per standard procedure, security norms and whether they are in need of any kind of maintenance,” said Saumya Srivastava, deputy chief executive officer, Noida Authority.
”If our officials find some sort of laxity and find hoardings that can be dangerous to the public, they will be reported and we will get them repaired,” added Srivastava.

Following the incident Monday evening, the Noida Authority had instituted an inquiry committee to look into the case and submit a report within seven days. According to Noida Authority officials, these directional signages had been put up across Noida in 2012. Rajesh Prakash, additional chief executive officer (ACEO), Noida Authority, said, “The committee will look into the incident and see if the signage fell due to wind velocity or some structural problem or improper installation. If the report suggests faulty installation of signages, strict action will be taken against those found responsible.”
On Tuesday, the terms of reference of the inquiry to be conducted by the committee were communicated. The panel will check “whether the standardisation of procedures was observed or not, whether there was departmental apathy to maintenance that should have been carried out on the part of the contractors and if it was being monitored by the concerned departmental engineers. These points will be looked into and the report will be submitted within a week,” said Srivastava.
Around 5 pm on Monday, a 27-year-old man was killed after a road signage fell on him and his friend while they were crossing DLF mall on a motorcycle.
