Meanwhile, in Mustafabad, one of the areas worst affected by the 2020 Delhi riots, BJP emerged victorious by 17578 votes against AAP’s Adil Ahmad Khan, Congress Ali Mehdi and AIMIM’s Tahir Hussain. Despite winning 2020 polls by a huge margin, AAP had this time denied a ticket to Haji Yunus, the sitting MLA of Mustafabad.
Battle of turncoats in Kasturba Nagar: Stakes were high in Delhi’s Kasturba Nagar seat where the now winning candidate, BJP’s Neeraj Basoya, contested AAP’s Ramesh Pehalwan and Congress’s Abhishek Dutt. While Basoya, an ex-Congress leader, joined BJP last year while Pehalwan, who formerly worked with the BJP, jumped ship to AAP. In the 2020, Madan Lal clinched the Kasturba Nagar Assembly seat on an AAP ticket, but shifted to BJP in January this year.

Both Shifa Ur Rehman Khan and Tahir Hussain, accused in the 2020 Delhi riots and currently in jail, cut into the BJP and AAP's vote share and performed better than Congress, which was relegated to fourth place.
According to the Election Commission, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Amanatullah Khan won in Okhla with a margin of 23,639 votes, while BJP candidate Manish Chaudhary came second with 65,304 votes. Shifa Ur Rehman Khan, who is currently lodged in Tihar Jail, secured 39,558 votes.
Similarly, in Mustafabad, AIMIM candidate Tahir Hussain secured 33,474 votes and finished as the second runner-up in the Assembly race.
BJP candidate Mohan Singh Bisht won the Mustafabad seat, defeating AAP's Adeel Ahmad Khan by a margin of 17,578 votes.
In both constituencies, Congress trailed in fourth place, with the party's candidate Ali Mehdi receiving 11,763 votes in Mustafabad and Ariba Khan securing 12,739 votes in Okhla.

In an exciting turn of events for AAP, Amanatullah Khan secured the Okhla seat with 88,943 votes, defeating BJP's Manish Chaudhary, who received 65,304 votes. Meanwhile, AIMIM’s Shifa Ur Rehman only secured 39558 votes.
As saffron waves swept across Delhi, AAP found a glimmer of hope as Delhi Chief Minister and AAP candidate from Kalkaji, Atishi, won the assembly seat by a margin of 3,521 votes, defeating BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri. This marks Atishi's second consecutive victory in the Kalkaji seat.
AAP comes closer to winning the Okhla seat as it is leading by 26955 votes against BJP's Manish Chaudhary. AAP's Amanatullah Khan is at 85056 votes while BJP's Chaudhary at 58101. AIMIM’s Shifa Ur Rehman is trailing with only 39405 votes.
As the battle for the Okhla seat continues, with AAP’s Amanatullah Khan leading AIMIM’s Shifa Ur Rehman Khan by 36,295 votes, a wave of celebration sweeps the national capital as the BJP emerges victorious after 27 years.
Parvesh Verma, who contested against AAP Convenor Arvind Kejriwal from the New Delhi constituency, won the seat.
“This is not just my victory; this is the victory of the people of Delhi, who chose truth over lies, governance over gimmicks, and development over deception. I humbly thank every voter who placed their trust in me,” he said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah hailed the Delhi poll results saying, a new era of development in national capital begins and the reign of lies, deceit and corruption ends.
BJP's victory in Delhi comes after a long wait of 27 years with BJP leaders praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi leadership.
In a series of post on X, Shah said Delhi would become an ideal capital under Modi's leadership.
The BJP is determined to fulfil all its promises and make Delhi the number one capital of the world, he said.
Delhiites have shown that the public cannot be mislead by repeated false promises. The public has responded to the dirty Yamuna, dirty drinking water, broken roads, overflowing sewers and liquor shops open in every street with their votes, the post said.
"Be it the respect for women, the self-respect of unauthorized colony residents or the immense possibilities of self-employment, Delhi will now become an ideal capital under the leadership of Modiji."
He also said, "The people of Delhi have worked to make Delhi Aapda-free by destroying the 'Sheeshmahal' of lies, deceit and corruption."
In Mustafabad, BJP's Mohan Singh Bisht emerged victorious against AAP's Adeel Ahmad Khan by 17578 votes.
The Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM had fielded candidates on two seats with a sizeable Muslim population – Okhla and Mustafabad. While Delhi riots accused and former AAP councillor Tahir Hussain was in third place in Mustafabad where the BJP was leading, the party’s second candidate Shifa ur Rehman Khan, who is also an accused in the 2020 riots, was in second place in Okhla. -- reports Asad Rehman
Even as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) bigwigs are on the brink of defeat, the party’s candidates have done well in Muslim-dominated seats and look poised to win six of the seven seats where the community has a significant chunk of voters.
According to latest trends, apart from Mustafabad, the AAP candidates are comfortably ahead in Chandni Chowk, Matia Mahal, Babarpur, Seelampur, Okhla, and Ballimaran. Five years ago, the party had won all seven seats by big margins. However, in the run-up to the polls, AAP leaders had admitted that the margins may see a dip. -- reports Asad Rehman

AAP candidate Amanatullah Khan, is eyeing a third term as Okhla MLA. Ahead of the polls, Khan was booked for violating Model Code of Conduct. According to the Delhi Police, the Okhla MLA and a few party workers were campaigning at about 1 am. When the police officers inquired and objected to the gathering, an argument broke out between them, the officer said.
Khan is no stranger to controversies but also very important to the AAP organisationally. He was arrested in September last year in a case of alleged money laundering. In May, the Noida Police booked Khan and his son on charges of voluntarily causing hurt, provoking breach of peace, and criminal intimidation, among others, for allegedly assaulting an employee of a petrol pump in Noida Sector 95.
In 2022, the Delhi Police also arrested the 50-year-old MLA during a demolition drive in his constituency Okhla, declaring him a “bad character”.
According to Delhi Police records, as of 2022, Khan had 18 FIRs lodged against him and was either acquitted or discharged in 10 of those. Most of the FIRs had charges for obstructing public servants in their duty, intimidation, and causing enmity and hurt.
At 12.08: In Okhla, sitting MP Amanatullah Khan continues to lead with 21,757 against BJP's Manish Chaudhary.
Mohan Singh Bisht is seen to be a veteran in Delhi’s political arena and was first elected as an MLA in 1998 from Karawal Nagar, a seat he retained till 2015. However, he lost the seat to Mishra in 2015, then fighting on an AAP ticket. Five years later, Bisht wrested Karawal Nagar back, defeating the AAP’s Durgesh Pathak.
After being replaced by Mishra, Bisht had termed the BJP’s decision as a “big mistake” even as internal surveys of the BJP suggested that voters of Mustafabad preferred Mishra’s firebrand Hindutva-cum-Purvanchali face.
With Bisht sulking, the BJP national leadership intervened and a day later, announced him as the candidate from Mustafabad keeping in mind the significant Pahadi population. -- reports Upasika Singhal
The BJP’s move to “placate” one of its most experienced leaders, Mohan Singh Bisht, and field him from the Muslim-dominated seat of Mustafabad seems to have paid off.
Bisht, who was the sitting Karawal Nagar MLA and was replaced there by Kapil Mishra, has garnered a lead of over 40,000 votes after nine rounds of counting.
Neeraj Basoya, who is set to win Kasturba Nagar on BJP ticket, was associated with the Congress and was the AICC observer for West Delhi.
Basoya resigned from Congress ahead of Lok Sabha polls last year and joined the BJP. In his resignation, Basoya said the AAP-Congress alliance was bringing “disrepute and embarrassment” to Delhi Congress workers. Singh termed the AAP “a haven of corruption” and accused the high command of exhibiting “a total disregard for the views of Delhi Congress leaders” by allying with it and by fielding “two complete outsiders” who had “no connection” with its ideology from the Northwest and Northeast Delhi seats.
Ahead of Assembly polls, AAP had replaced Madan Lal, its three-time MLA from Kasturba Nagar, and nominated Ramesh Pehalwan, who had recently switched to the party from the BJP. Within days of releasing the candidate list, Lal jumped ship to join BJP.
A member of the AAP since its inception, Lal, 68, won the Kasturba Nagar constituency in three consecutive Assembly elections in 2013, 2015 and 2020. In 2020, he won by a margin of over 3,000 votes. Before joining the AAP, he was among the founding members of the Saket Bar Association.
In his resignation letter, Lal said he “lost faith in (Kejriwal) and the party”. Speaking to The Indian Express, Lal said he and the other MLAs decided to quit the AAP because the party that was “formed to end corruption in Delhi is itself indulging in corruption”.
In round 10 out of 15, BJP's Neeraj Basoya continues to lead in Kasturba Nagar seat by 8,676 votes. Basoya, an who was formerly associated with the Congress, joined the BJP last year.
As trends point at another poll debacle for Congress, the Congress party office in Delhi looks empty, untouched by the chaos that a result day brings.
Okhla is witnessing a neck-to-neck fight between AAP and BJP, with trends reversing in almost every of counting. At present, AAP’s Amanatullah Khan is leading against BJP’s Manish Chaudhary in Okhla, while AAP’s Adil Ahmad Khan has been left behind by BJP’s Mohan Singh Bisht in Mustafabad. In Kasturba Nagar, BJP’s Neeraj Bisoya is ahead in race against AAP’s Ramesh Pehalwan.

The counting of votes starts in 70 Assembly constituencies has now started. Key battlegrounds such as Okhla, Mustafabad, and Kasturba Nagar are under intense scrutiny for their political dynamics.
The minority vote, particularly among the Muslim community, is poised to be a significant factor in determining the outcome of the Delhi Assembly elections. In North East and Central Delhi, where Muslims account for 29.3% and 33.4% of the population respectively, their electoral impact is crucial.
In the 23 constituencies where Muslims make up at least 10% of the population, AAP has historically held strong, maintaining a vote share of around 55% between 2015 and 2020. However, the BJP has seen its vote share rise from 29.44% to 34.57% during the same period, while the Congress has seen a dramatic fall, from 12.81% to just 5.57%.
In 20 of these constituencies, the BJP’s vote share increased, while AAP’s vote share saw a decline in nine. With both AAP and Congress vying for this crucial electorate, a split in the Muslim vote could potentially benefit the BJP, which has capitalized on the divided opposition.
Additionally, the AIMIM is contesting two seats, further adding to the potential fragmentation of the Muslim vote. In riot-affected areas of North East Delhi, many locals express discontent with AAP’s response but feel they have limited alternatives.
Stakes are high in Delhi’s Kasturba Nagar seat too where AAP’s Ramesh Pehalwan, BJP’s Neeraj Basoya, and Congress’s Abhishek Dutt were the key contenders in this year’s Assembly polls. Pehalwan, who formerly worked with the BJP, jumped ship to AAP in December last year while Basoya, an ex-Congress leader, joined BJP. In the 2020, Madan Lal clinched the Kasturba Nagar Assembly seat on an AAP ticket, but shifted to BJP in January this year.
The Muslim vote emerged as a key factor this Assembly polls, even as the Congress is going all out to woo back the minority community. While AIMIM also made its present felt in Okhla and Mustafabad as a minor player in larger political landscape in Delhi.
This elections, the voting for which concluded on February 5, the AAP had fielded Muslim candidates in five seats including Matia Mahal and Ballimaran in Central Delhi, Okhla in South East Delhi, and Seelampur and Mustafabad in North East Delhi. The party had nominated Muslim faces in these five Muslim-dominated constituencies in the 2020 polls too, when all of them won their seats with huge margins.
