Officers said that efforts were made to find Azad, the accused, but on not being able to do so, police team brought the complainant back to the police station around midnight.
A 34-year-old man died under mysterious circumstances at Baba Haridas Nagar Police Station after making a PCR call regarding a robbery in the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, officers said.
Police identified the man as Rahul Yadav, an employee at Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), who was taken to the police station on Wednesday after he made a PCR call of robbery.
On the reason behind keeping him inside the police station, DCP (Dwarka) Harsh Vardhan said, “Sensing that it is a matter of quarrel among known parties which could escalate again, and also because the caller was heavily under the influence of alcohol, the complainant remained in police station near the IO’s room. He was also visited by his mother at the police station who insisted that action be taken against the accused persons.”
The DCP said that, however, around 5.30 am, the IO tried to wake the complainant up from sleep but he was found unresponsive. “He was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead,” said the DCP.
Rahul had earlier made a PCR call regarding an assault and attempt to robbery by persons known to him. “A PCR team came and since Rahul was under the influence of alcohol, he was taken to the police station for medical examination in the night. His blood content was 172 mg and there was some abrasion on his left leg,” said police.
Officers said that efforts were made to find Azad, the accused, but on not being able to do so, police team brought the complainant back to the police station around midnight.
Soni, Rahul’s wife, alleged foul play and questioned why Rahul was not sent back home. “Rahul was kept inside the police station till the morning… we received a call from the hospital in the morning informing us about Rahul’s death…why was he taken to the police station despite being a complainant while the accused is still absconding?”
