Poll panel finds 90,000 multiple entries in rolls

The process of addition in electoral rolls began on October 15 and will be completed by January 5.

The office of the chief electoral officer (CEO), which is carrying out summary revisions in the capital’s electoral rolls, has identified as many as 89,156 multiple entries and 1,20,605 cases of image duplication.

The process of addition, changes and deletion in electoral rolls began on October 15 and will be completed by January 5.

“We had suo motu started this process of roll cleaning using a de-duplication software. We used a two-pronged approach with an IT-enabled application and field verification. Field officers have visited the addresses to verify the photos of electors and in cases where photographs were wrong, they have been changed. We have also drawn up an ASD (absent-shifted-dead) list of about 50,000 names. The list will be given to presiding officers in various Assembly constituencies,” joint chief electoral officer Rajesh Goyal said.

He said electors whose entries were found questionable have been notified and their names will not be deleted from the rolls without giving them a hearing. With Assembly elections expected next month, Delhi may add about 1.86 lakh voters to its electoral roll.
