The investigation into a case, where an unidentified woman’s body was sent to Ajmer in a trunk by courier, has hit a dead end with nobody coming forth to claim it. Even a helpline, launched by the police for the purpose three days ago, does not seem to have helped.

“Three days have passed since we launched the helpline, but we are yet to get a response. Not a single person has called to enquire about the body,” said a senior police officer.

Moreover, none of the 15 families who had gone to Ajmer,Rajasthan,to identify the body, claimed it.

On April 2,an unidentified man packed the body in an iron trunk and parceled it to Ajmer. It was sent from the Lahori Gate-based Milap Road and Transport Services. The woman had been tortured to death, police said.

According to the post-mortem report, the woman was assaulted in a manner that ruptured her liver and caused serious harm to her internal organs. “There was no drugging involved and her internal organs were ruptured. Her face had been burnt to avoid recognition,” said a senior police officer.

On Saturday, the Rajasthan Police was contacted by a Jaipur-based couple, which contended that the victim could be their daughter. However, nothing came out of that either. “We deployed teams and the woman, who the family claimed could have been killed, was traced to Delhi. Two of our teams are camping in Delhi, but we haven’t landed any clues so far,” said Narender Singh,Station House Officer of Maidangarh police station in Ajmer.

“Though we scoured the red-light area in Delhi,we did not get any clues. We are looking for the rickshaw-puller,who ferried the suspect to the courier agency in North Delhi. So far,we have questioned more than 1,000 rickshaw-pullers,” said a Delhi Police officer.
