The concept will be brought up in the upcoming Bhagidari workshop,to be organised from June 28 to July 1. “We will explain the concept of cool roofs at the workshop. We are drafting detailed plans to implement measures to conserve energy across the Capital,” said Environment Secretary Keshav Chandra.

Meanwhile, the Environment department is drafting a plan to have ‘cool roofs’ at every government school. The project will be carried out in phases.

sunlight, emitting some of the absorbed radiation back to the atmosphere instead of conducting it into the

building.

According to studies, the temperature of

cool roofs remain around 25 to 35 Centigrade during summer. Residents can make cool roofs in two ways, either with broken china mosaic terracing or roof coating.

The first option is cheaper — broken pieces of white glazed tiles embedded in wet mortar and

joints filled with white cement slurry.

The second option is a white elastomeric coating that can be applied to roofs and outer walls.
