SC/St students suffer as state boards delay sending results

Till now,only the CBSE,ICSE,Punjab Board,UP Board and Nagaland Board have sent their CDs to DU. The Haryana Board sent in its results on Thursday evening.

According to DU officials,they are receiving a lot of candidates from the Bihar Board and the Open School,boards that have not sent in their results.

Mahinder Kumar,an SC candidate from Haryana,who had seven other applicants accompanying him,said: “We went to the North Campus and DSW but were refused forms. The officials told us they are unable to verify our marks as the Board has not sent them the CD. They have now told us to go to the Resident Commissioner of Haryana and get our marksheets attested. Why are we bearing the brunt of miscommunication between our board and the university?”

DU officials,however,put the entire blame on the state boards. “We had written to all the boards requesting them to make sure the CDs reach us in time. We even called a meeting with the Resident Commissioners,requesting them to ensure the boards sent us the data on time,” G S Tuteja,Deputy Dean,Students Welfare,said.

Similar problems are rife in South Campus as well,with frustrated students doing the rounds of the DSW office here.

“We are working as per the university’s rules. We sent letters to the boards three months before the admissions started,” D C Varshney,Deputy Dean,Students Welfare,South Campus,said.

When asked why the university is not granting provisional admission to these students on the basis of Internet marksheets and accepting the original marksheets later as and when they arrive,Tuteja said it could lead to trouble later.

“If the candidate later fails to produce the originals or discrepancies are detected,it would amount to interference with merit. How can we allow admission without official authentication?” he said.
