Second list gives another chance to SC,ST students

The Delhi University released the second list for centralised admissions of SC and ST candidates, along with the second cut-off list,on Tuesday.

The Delhi University released the second list for centralised admissions of SC and ST candidates, along with the second cut-off list,on Tuesday. Unlike previous years, the university has also included candidates for the second list, who had surrendered their allotted seats as per the first SC/ST list.

Till last year, such candidates were considered for the ‘face-to-face’ admission process, which takes place after all the stipulated lists are out and when the leftover seats are allotted.

Also,as a special consideration, candidates who were late in getting their provisional admission slips cancelled, were also included in the second list after they submitted written applications that they are willing to surrender the seat gained in the first list and try again.

Following the appeals yesterday,by candidates late with the cancellation of their provisional admission slips at the Dean Students Welfare office, the authorities decided to consider them for admission as they were just marginally late. However, those candidates who did not approach the university with their request of reconsideration have missed their opportunity to get an admission.

“Students, who had given to us in writing the cancellation of their allotted admission, have been considered. But those who neither took their allotted seat, nor came to us for a change or surrender, have lost their allotted seats,” said Gurpreet Singh Tuteja,Deputy Dean Students Welfare.

“We did not know that a provisional slip was to be issued. When we went to the college for admission, they asked us to collect the slip from DU. By the time we got the slip we could not reach the college in time for admission. But we are grateful to the authorities for considering us in the second list,” said Nitesh Kumar, who along with his friend Nikhil, was at the North Campus for his admission.

Through this second list the DU has also accommodated those SC/ST students who were allotted seats in SGTB Khalsa College, only to be denied admission by the college. The college authorities claimed that since they did not implement the OBC quota, their seats in any of the category had not increased.

The university, however, had issued admission allocations as per the new increased number of seats.
