Seven is a Goal,Not a Number

An inveterate traveller with a seven-year itinerary plans to share his experiences through short videos and photos.

An inveterate traveller with a seven-year itinerary plans to share his experiences through short videos and photos.

Even as the soft piano music begins to play,a tall, lithe woman — barefoot, and clad in a white shirt and matching trousers — begins to sway to the tune. What adds to the beauty of her effortless movements is the scenic locale — overlooking a hill and the sea — that forms the backdrop for her performance. “Maya is a dancer from France and I met her during my trip to Kerala, where this performance was recorded,” recollects 39-year-old Apurv, who has shot and edited this four-minute video.

This is one of the 120 short videos — none of them over seven minutes — that he has shot over a year. A visual merchandiser-turned-farmer-turned-full time traveller,Apurv has covered the entire coastline of the country, including South India, and parts of central India from September last year. And through these videos,he narrates his travel experiences. “My videos don’t follow any specific rule. I record anything that excites me — from enjoying the mahua drink with a local from Bastar and a coracle ride in Hampi to capturing dance performances (such as Maya’s) and chasing tornadoes with a foreign tourist,” says Apurv. He plans to put up the edited videos and stills on a website.

Scheduled to go live by the end of this month,limitlessindia.com will be an interactive website. The site will have one section for videos and another one for stills. This apart, there will also be a spirituality column as Apurv is also a yoga and Tai Chi master and believes in the concept of ‘travel within’.

He set out from Mumbai and went down south and then all the way to Kolkata, before the Assam riots forced him to take a break. “I could have side-stepped Assam and gone to Bihar instead, but I want to travel along the circumference and in the surrounding areas. So I flew out to France and now I am headed to Assam, post which,I will cover the entire North-East. Bhutan and Nepal are on my itinerary next. I will enter India again to go to Bihar,North India and then back to the West,” explains Apurv,a National Institute of Fashion (NIFT),Delhi graduate.

He has plans of launching limitlesspakistan.com,limitlessafghanistan.com and more such offshoots in the future. “I intend to cover the India leg of my journey in another year. After that,I want to drive my car to Europe, covering all the countries in my way, starting with Pakistan. This should take me five years — that’s a total of seven years of travel,” he points out.

Life on the road hasn’t been a cakewalk for him. “I spend all my time finding a place to camp, setting up camp, cooking for myself and shooting and editing videos,” says Apurv, who makes money teaching tai chi and yoga when he’s not offering cab services in his car. Supporting him in this adventure is Anjaan Ghosh,a film producer. “When I saw Apurv’s videos,I felt that we needed to come up with a platform to share his journey with other people,” he recalls.

While Apurv has always travelled alone — save for his Rottweiler (named Jazz,to whom he has dedicated all his videos) — he admits that he wants more people to join him on his trip. The maps section on his website will have flag icons to indicate places that Apurv has visited,is currently visiting or is yet to visit. “This way, whoever is accessing the site can check my schedule and even join me,” he says.
