Sheila takes the fight to Harsh Vardhan’s home

Ahead of the CM’s visit,the Geeta Colony market had undergone a transformation,at least in appearance. Adorned with multi-coloured lights and with a sound system from a local company ‘Puppy Sounds’ playing party anthems,the stage was set for Dikshit’s endorsement of Dr V K Monga,the Congress candidate from the constituency.

“In V K Monga you will get an MLA,who will be there for you all the time. I came to Krishna Nagar eight to nine years ago. The fact is,nothing has changed since then. The problems are still the same and no development has taken place here,” she said.

Dikshit put the blame squarely on Harsh Vardhan and said,“He simply hasn’t utilised the amount allocated to him by the Delhi government. A lot more could have been done. But he has failed you.”

She also countered BJP’s claim that Harsh Vardhan had eradicated polio from Delhi and said,“While it was the BJP who had first implemented the Central scheme,it was the Congress “which effectively eradicated polio in Delhi and completed the work.”

In a whirlwind series of rallies across East Delhi,the chief minister appealed for votes based on her work and the development in Delhi.

With traffic police clearing the way for her,Dikshit attended rallies in six different places – Patparganj,Shakarpur,Laxmi Nagar,Vishwas Nagar,Shahadra,Gandhi Nagar and Krishna Nagar – within three hours on Wednesday. She also visited Kondli and Trilokpuri in the morning.

At Shakarpur in Laxmi Nagar,the BJP’s campaign against the Congress candidate A K Walia is centred around the fact that in spite of him being the Health Minister,no new hospitals had been constructed in the area.

Dikshit said,“Two more hospitals are coming up in the area. Delhi has the best hospitals in the country. The best hospitals for liver diseases,teeth and cancer are in Delhi. What is the BJP talking about?”

The central theme of her speeches was that people should vote for the Congress because of the development they had carried out.

Apart from East Delhi’s development,Dikshit also did not miss out on targeting the large number of migrants,especially purvanchal voters. “We have made Delhi the most preferred destination for people from all over the world. The minimum wage for people in Delhi is the highest of any state and we’ll continue to ensure that everyone feels welcome here,” she said.
