The film industry lost a legendary actor-filmmaker,and The Resort,a luxury hotel on the Madh Marve Road, lost a regular customer. Dev Anand, visited The Resort often to work on his scripts and screenplays. “He came here at least twice a month, sometimes more,” says Valerian D’sa,restaurant manager, who interacted with him on quite a few occasions. Anand would usually frequent the place in the evenings and had a particular spot at the coffee shop where he liked to sit and relax. “He was a very affectionate person who spoke nicely to the waiters and the staff around,” adds D’Sa. Anand would sit with his colleagues discussing work at the coffee shop and at other times would spend time alone. “His favourites at the coffee shop were the Russian sandwich and tea,” said D’Sa. Earlier, when The Indian Express interviewed Dev Anand at the resort,he told us that this was the only place in Mumbai that gave him peace of mind. “It’s calm and quiet here and the sea across helps you lose yourself for sometime. The place also helps me think clearly and write better,” he had said. D’Sa tells us that the last time Anand visited the resort was three months ago. “We were just talking the other day that Dev saab hasn’t come here in a while,” said D’Sa.
