Off-spinner Yogesh Nagar is not unduly worried about figuring in the BCCIs suspect list
His name figures on the list of 30 Indian bowlers with suspect action compiled by the BCCI,but Yogesh Nagar doesnt sound even remotely concerned. Far from worrying about a prospective grind at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to correct his action, the off-spinner is eagerly looking forward to his first overseas tour the second season of the Indian Premier League in South Africa with the Delhi Daredevils.
It doesnt bother me that my name is on that list. It is a standard procedure the umpires had to file a report with the board once they called my action as suspect, Nagar told Sportline.
I have not discussed this matter with anyone,as I have not been officially asked to go through a corrective session yet. But I know I will have to report at the NCA sometime in August to get my action reviewed. I will think about it once I am back in Delhi after the IPL matches, he added.
The confidence with which he deals with the issue comes naturally to the 19-year-old all-rounder. On his First-Class debut against Gujarat in Valsad,Nagar scored 79 and almost got Delhi the first-innings lead. His List-A debut wasnt as impressive and he was no-balled for a flawed action in the match against Jammu & Kashmir earlier this year.
I dont remember the umpire who no-balled me against J&K. But it didnt affect me at all,as I went on to bowl a lot of overs even after that, Nagar says.
Suspect action or not,the youngster finished up as the highest wicket-taker for the Delhi team in the Ranji one-dayers with 15 wickets in six matches.
Having warmed the bench for the entire IPL last year,he is hoping that his recent performances will earn him a chance to play in the first eleven this time around.
Last year,it was different. I hadnt played for Delhi,so getting a game in the IPL was out of question. This time,Ive performance to show. I am looking forward to the South Africa trip as this will be my first tour outside India. I am just hoping to get a game and hopefully do good as this is a big opportunity for me to make a name for myself.
After scoring 79 against Gujarat,I knew that I can play at this level, plus I did well in the one-dayers too. Given a chance,I am sure Ill do well in IPL also, he concluded.
