In a bid to curb air pollution that has assumed “critical” level, the Delhi Government on Friday announced that private vehicles bearing odd and even registration numbers will be allowed to ply only on alternate days starting January 1. The proposal came a day after the High Court compared Delhi to a “gas chamber” and directed the state government to ensure “zero tolerance” for violation of rules.
However, the decision by the Arvind Kejriwal government was mocked by Twitterrati who found the odd/even formula very confusing.
Here are some of the funny reactions on Twitter

This Number Plate has a secret message for you Arvind Kejriwal. Kinda odd, but just to even things out. pic.twitter.com/sel2cyAeQ3 — Sand-d Singh (@Sand_In_Deed) December 4, 2015
@AksharPathak meanwhile Delhi cops – Sir yeh zero odd hai ki even..????

Technically zero is neither odd or even. So anyone with number ending zero can ply on both days! :-) Loophole https://t.co/aBlxRQFyCI — Gujju Gajamani (@gajamani) December 4, 2015
Next how will we deal with water crisis? Have bath alternate days. #Oddevenformula

Delhi MLA’s got 400% hike so that they can buy one more car to use on both Odd n Even days. What about real AAM ADMIs? #OddEvenFormula — Jineesh (@jineesh_blr) December 4, 2015
I think the best idea for AAP to reduce pollution in Delhi is to do dharna for all 365 days – so that no vehicles can move in Delhi at all

Let’s be sad about Delhi weather sitting in AC office. Also pls keep anti-pollution tweets on agenda while buying 5th car in a family of 3.

Environmentalist Sunita Narain supported the move, saying pollution in Delhi was at a health emergency level and such steps were needed.
Congress general secretary and spokesperson Shakeel Ahmad said that Arvind Kejriwal government’s decision was aimed at cheap publicity and will cause harassment to the common man.
“The Kejriwal government practises gimmickry for cheap publicity. This is not practical and will harass the common man,” he said.
BJP was, however, more circumspect in its reaction.
“We welcome any step to curb pollution but it should be practical,” Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, adding that it should not happen that the measure is rejected outright.
