Twitterrati make fun of Delhi govt’s odd/even formula, find it confusing

It has been found that Hadapsar, Shivajinagar and Lohegaon are the most polluted areas followed by Katraj and Bhosari.

In a bid to curb air pollution that has assumed “critical” level, the Delhi Government on Friday announced that private vehicles bearing odd and even registration numbers will be allowed to ply only on alternate days starting January 1. The proposal came a day after the High Court compared Delhi to a “gas chamber” and directed the state government to ensure “zero tolerance” for violation of rules.

However, the decision by the Arvind Kejriwal government was mocked by Twitterrati who found the odd/even formula very confusing.

Environmentalist Sunita Narain supported the move, saying pollution in Delhi was at a health emergency level and such steps were needed.

Congress general secretary and spokesperson Shakeel Ahmad said that Arvind Kejriwal government’s decision was aimed at cheap publicity and will cause harassment to the common man.

“The Kejriwal government practises gimmickry for cheap publicity. This is not practical and will harass the common man,” he said.

BJP was, however, more circumspect in its reaction.

“We welcome any step to curb pollution but it should be practical,” Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, adding that it should not happen that the measure is rejected outright.
