Two men, allegedly involved in an attack on a sub-inspector on Monday, were arrested following a shootout in the early hours of Tuesday in Patel Nagar, said police. The police identified the accused as Anish (23) and Anurag Yadav (22). The encounter took place at around 4.30 am after police received information about the movement of the suspects in the area. Police said the suspects were shot in the leg as they tried to evade arrest. "The two accused opened fire on the police teams and the teams retaliated by shooting back in self-defence. We are conducting further legal proceedings against them," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Harsha Vardhan He added, “When a team from the Rajinder Nagar police traced a robbery accused, Guddu, his associates had resisted the police action on Monday. SI Neeraj received a sharp injury on his back and was shifted to Gangaram Hospital. He is stable now.” Anurag has been involved in two cases previously — one of murder and the other of grievous assault. Anish, too, had been booked in a case, said police.
