Two held for extortion bid

Police arrested two persons from Chattarpur on Saturday for allegedly posing as journalists and trying to extort money from an NGO.

Police arrested two persons from Chattarpur on Saturday for allegedly posing as journalists and trying to extort money from an NGO.

According to police,one Kaushalya,who runs an NGO,had complained in the Northeast district police station that the accused had met her on Thursday and demanded Rs 50,000 from her,failing which they had threatened to show her organisation’s work in bad light. On Friday,when she handed over Rs 10,000 to them,they demanded Rs 30,000 more,police said. She informed the police and the duo was arrested.

Police said the duo had blackmailed and extorted money from other people also. Searches by police led to recoveries of identity cards and lap tops.
