World’s largest bus depot unveiled

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday inaugurated the world’s largest bus depot at Millennium Park.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday inaugurated the world’s largest bus depot at Millennium Park. The new depot is comprehensive in all respects,with parking space for around 1,000 buses,five workshop-cum-bus scanning centres,seven dormitories for Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) officers,night stay for 500 persons,eight washing pits,four underground tanks for washing buses and two CNG filling stations,among other facilities. Officials said the depot was constructed within a very short period at a cost of Rs 61 crore and can be called the greenest depot in the country.

Four hybrid buses that will run on CNG as well as electricity and at the speed of a Metro train were also launched. The DTC will ply around 6,000 buses during the Games and has identified 42 sites to provide direct bus services to Games venues. The DTC has already commissioned 400 such modern bus Q-shelters on all roads leading to Games venues. Another 800 Q-shelters are being installed.
