An FIR has been filed against controversial priest Yati Narsinghanand for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Mahatma Gandhi and abusing police officers in Ghaziabad.

According to officials, the chief priest of Ghaziabad’s Dasna Temple was booked after he was seen making objectionable comments in a purported video.

The complaint was filed by Sarvesh Kumar Pal, Station House Officer (SHO), Wave Police Station, Ghaziabad, in which he alleged that the purported video was widely shared on social media. “Yati Narsinghnand is using derogatory remarks against the Ghaziabad Commissioner of Police Ajay Kumar Mishra and the Assistant Police Commissioner of Loni in a video and derogatory remarks against Gandhi. Abusive language against the Commissioner and remarks like ‘spitting on the face of Gandhi’ are being used in the video. It is being done to spread hate and disturb the peace in the area,” SHO Pal said in his complaint.

Following the complaint, an FIR was filed at the Wave City Police station under sections 351 (2) (criminal intimidation), 352(intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) 353(1)(b)(statement conducing to public mischief), 353(2) (circulating false statements) and 292(public nuisance) of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita.

A senior official on Saturday said that the investigation into the matter is ongoing.

This is not the first time that the Ghaziabad Police has booked him in a hate speech case. A similar FIR was filed against him on October 4 last year for an alleged hate speech delivered at Hindi Bhawan in Ghaziabad’s Lohia Nagar on September 29. Police had said the FIR against him was registered under Section 302 (hurting someone’s religious feelings) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita based on a complaint by sub-inspector Trivendra Singh.
