‘Youths must begin from practising right to vote’

The Tagore Foundation of India organised a seminar on ‘The future of youth in India’ to discuss the issues of politics,climate change and general awareness on Friday.

The Tagore Foundation of India organised a seminar on ‘The future of youth in India’ to discuss the issues of politics,climate change and general awareness on Friday. The Foundation,an NGO led by youths,aims to spread awareness among those in the age group of 16-25.

Nafisa Ali,chairperson of the Committee of Commonwealth Games 2010,spoke on the occasion. Addressing the issue of ‘politics and the youth’,she said,“Youths should contribute to the governance of the country beginning with practising their right to vote.” Citing their responsibility towards the society,she emphasised that the “youth should voice their opinion against unethical practises surrounding them”.

Sandeep Kumar,President W-Carp India,stressed on the “development of the youth”,saying that to be responsible and honest towards the society are essential duties of a youth.

Those present at the event were introduced to the ‘Climate Change Project India’,an NGO conceptualised by Al Gore,former vice-president of the US.

Counselling sessions by volunteers of the Foundation were also held in which information on scholarships at various levels and career guidance by alumni and professors of reputed institutes was provided to students.

The Tagore Foundation focusses on the implementation of community-based projects,which challenge stereotyped models of development and encourage the unrestrained expression of the youth.

Tagore Foundation Secretary Ashish Mehta said,“It’s about doing the right thing,at the right time.”
