The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the results of Class X in Chennai region on Tuesday morning. However, the board officials did not release official figures pertaining the pass percentage like they do every year.
Chennai region covers CBSE schools in Maharashtra,Goa,Karnataka,Andhra Pradesh,Tamil Nadu,Kerala,Pondicherry etc. The results of Delhi region too was announced on Tuesday evening. However, results of other regions (Guwahati,Allahabad,Ajmer and Panchkula) will be further delayed. Officials say the results for the remaining regions will be announced later in phases.
CBSE officials refused to comment on the delay in results. Normally, the Class X results are declared before Class XII. The results of CBSE XII for all the regions were announced on May 23. Some of the officials put the blame on introduction of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) this year for the delay.
According to the officials, the collection of the CCE data from schools took much longer than expected, which delayed the tabulation of the final result. An official from CBSE exam division said,This year, there are around 10,61,566 candidates across the country who registered for the exams,an increase of nearly 15 per cent as compared to last year. To analyse the data of each candidate has proved to be a difficult task as the CCE results are not as simple as the earlier board results. Now,the students are being graded for their soft skills as well.
Preparation of results is more tedious than usual. The result of each student is spread across four sheets, said an official from CBSE Chennai region.
Another official attributed the delay to the All India Engineering Entrance Examination paper leak. The entire machinery was involved in organising the paper all over again, which made the evaluation and assessment work suffer, she said.
I dont think the delay is much. Even last year we had declared the Class X results on May 28. By that standard we are not too late. We agree that our attention got diverted due to the AIEEE issue. Results for other regions too would be announced soon, said Vineet Joshi, chairman of CBSE board.
