The growing rift between the Goa BJP and its alliance partner the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party seems to have hit its end with Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar dropping the two MGP ministers from his cabinet late Monday night.
Parsekar recommended to the Governor Mridula Sinha the removal of PWD Minister Ramkrishna Dhavalikar and his brother Factories and Boilers Minister Pandurang Dhavalikar. The chief minister, for now, will take charge of these portfolios.
“Yes, I have recommended that Sudin (Ramkrishna) and Deepak (Pandurag) be dropped from my cabinet. Thought it is entirely me prerogative, I have my party’s (backing) and I have done consultations,” Parsekar told local daily Herald.
Reacting to his sacking, Pandurang said: “The Chief Minister cannot ask his cabinet ministers to resign instead he should dissolve the Assembly. When we resign, they also should resign. We had a pre-poll alliance not post-poll. We had assured the voters and people that we will be with this government for five years and that is why we have tolerated injustice from the BJP.”
Over the last few weeks, the MGP has been demanding that the Goa BJP sack the chief minister if it wanted the alliance to continue. Goa is set to go to polls early next year. The Congress has now demanded that the state be put under President’s Rule.
