Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday directed the police and the education department to conduct an enquiry into an incident at a higher secondary school in North Goa's Bicholim, where eleven students were hospitalised on Thursday after complaining of breathlessness. Bicholim police said they received a call from the medical officer at a community health centre (CHC) informing that some girl students of Shree Shantadurga Higher Secondary School were brought to the casualty ward at the CHC. Police said prima facie, it is suspected that a group of students allegedly used a pepper spray on another group during school hours. Out of the 11 students who were hospitalised, three were referred to the district hospital in Mapusa, said police. Police added that the condition of all the students is stable. Police have written to the school management to initiate an inquiry into the incident. The school has also been directed to install CCTV cameras at its premises and classrooms. Meanwhile, the directorate of education also issued a notice to the school authorities, directing the school to submit a detailed report on the incident within three days. "You are hereby directed to show cause as to why action deemed fit should not be initiated against the management for failing to prevent such incidents in the school premises," the notice stated.
