The Gauhati High Court Wednesday observed that a perusal of the case diary will be necessary before considering Indian Youth Congress Srinivas BV’s plea to stay the FIR filed against him by expelled Congress leader Angkita Dutta. Srinivas has challenged the FIR and moved the High Court seeking that a notice issued to him by the Dispur Police Station in this matter be quashed and seeking a direction for protection from coercive action. On Wednesday, Justice Ajit Borthakur observed that the interim prayer to stay the FIR could only be considered after the receipt of the case diary from the police and after the complainant is served notice. The matter has been listed for May 2. Following a series of social media posts accusing Srinivas of “harassment” and “discrimination”, the Assam police had last week registered an FIR against him based on a police complaint by former Assam Pradesh Youth Congress Angkita Dutta.
