3 more die; locals protest against Mamata Banerjee govt’s ‘failure’, torch KMC vehicle

“Doctors at hospitals are not writing dengue as the cause of death even when a patient died of the vector-borne disease. Several people in our area have been refused admission by hospitals. The civic bodies have also failed to maintain a hygiene in the area. We are worried and want a permanent solution,” a local told The Sunday Express.

Contacted, a KMC official said, “We have done fogging and spraying in all areas, but who knows where the dengue mosquitoes are breeding.”
Meanwhile, two more deaths allegedly due to dengue were reported on Saturday, while another on Friday.

Seema Kahar (45) of Deganga, one of the worst-affected areas by dengue, died on Saturday at NRS hospital. She had been suffering from fever for more than a week. In the second case, Rita Kirtania of Bangaon in North 24 Parganas died of ‘unknown fever’ on Saturday. She was suffering from fever for the last five days, sources said. She was admitted to Bangoan hospital Thursday, where she died.

On Friday evening, Purnima Biswas (25) of Jadavpur died at Medica Superspecialty Hospital. She was five-month pregnant. The cause of death is mentioned as “complicated dengue” on her death certificate.
