Arrested TMC leader and former Director General of West Bengal Armed Police Rajat Majumdar Thursday threw a challenge to the CBI stating that the investigating agency won’t be able to make him take the names of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and TMC general secretary Mukul Roy in Saradha chit fund scam.

Majumdar threw the challenge when asked to give his defence in the Alipore court where he was produced by CBI soon after being discharged from a city hospital where he was admitted following his arrest on Tuesday.

“The CBI wants me to record my statement saying that I used to carry money from (Saradha Group chief) Sudipta Sen to Mukul Roy. But I can assure the CBI officers that however hard they may try, they would not able to force me to record a statement taking names of Mamata and Mukul,” Majumdar said in the court.

He said the CBI can seek his custody for 70 days but it “would not be able to get a word out of him”.

Claiming that Majumdar is “one of the conspirators in the scam”, the CBI had moved court seeking his custody for seven days. The court, however, remanded him to five days’ custody.

The agency had Wednesday got “deemed judicial custody” of Majumdar since he was not fit for physical production.

Soon after he was arrested Majumdar had complained of chest pain and was shifted to NRS hospital. A medical board formed to treat him declared as “fit” on Thursday and discharged him.

Majumdar is the second TMC leader, after suspended TMC MP Kunal Ghosh, who took chief minister’s name in the court room.   Ghosh had pleaded in the court room that he should be interrogated alongwith Mamata and Sudipta.
