A CBI team today led by Joint Director Keshav Rao visited Netai village in West Midnapore where nine villagers were shot dead by the armed CPM cadres on January 7. The CBI took the two CPM members, accused and arrested in the case, along with them to the village for reconstruction of the sequence of the ghastly killing.
The CBI team reached the spot around 9 am and left the village around 4.30 pm. A huge force accompanied the CBI team in the village. The team included forensic experts and ballistic expert. A senior CBI official said,We have visited the spot for the first time. We have collected the evidence we needed and spoke with the villagers. We have got some clues after speaking with them.
According to sources in the village, the CBI officers spoke with some of the villagers but they are yet to speak with the complainant Arup Patro.
A source in the village told The Indian Express the officers today visited the house of Fullora Mondal, the absconding member of the CPM zonal committee and an accused in the Netai massacre. It was also learnt the CBI officers also visited the house of CPM zonal secretary Annuj Pandey, though he was not present there.
However, senior CBI officers denied having visited the residences of Fullara and Annuj. Dahareswar Sen,district committee member of the CPM,said: The CBI team also visited the nearby CRPF camps. They also visited the houses of Fullora and Annuj who were not present there. We can understand their visit of Fulloras house, but why they should visit Annujs house as his name was not mentioned in the FIR. I do not know what the arrested persons are telling the CBI during interrogation.
