Evidence collected by the CID indicates that the death of senior CPM leader Pradip Tah was not a result of public outrage but a pre-planned murder,as claimed by Tahs wife Chitralekha. The CID,which took over the investigation following an order of the Calcutta High Court,said it had ample evidential proof indicating conspiracy in executing the crime in Burdwan on February 25. Following the court order,a CID team visited Burdwan and took custody of the four arrested Trinamool Congress men including Patitpaban Tah,Surajeet Tah,Choton Chakraborty and Bhupal Goswami. The investigators seized their mobile phones. They found that several calls were made from those numbers before and after the incident. We trying to access the subscriber details of those who received the calls. But according to our preliminary investigation,calls were made from the phones of the arrested persons to those who are also named in the FIR and absconding. We are not ruling out the possibility of the incident being a pre-planned murder as claimed by the wife of the victim, said a senior CID official. The district police,who seized a branch of a tree,a piece of wood,a stone and a stick presented in court as the list of seizures did not seize the mobile phones and neither checked their call records. Moreover,no action was taken after receiving an official complaint from Pradip Tah. Tah had written S N Mirza,SP,Burdwan that he was receiving death threats from those whose names later figured in the FIR. The court also pointed out that the post mortem report was not submitted on time by the Burdwan police. Two days after the Calcutta High Court pulled up the Mamata Banerjee government for failing to submit post-mortem reports of the two slain CPM leaders on time,a sub-inspector at Burdwan police station,Durgadas Bhattacharya,was suspended for dereliction of duty. It was learnt that Bhattacharya collected the post-mortem reports from Burdwan Medical College and Hospital but did not attach them with the case diary. A showcause notice was issued to investigating officer Swapan Banerjee,IC,Burdwan. Banerjee was yesterday transferred out from Burdwan police station.
