The Left Front government has asked the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) not to agitate if it wants the state government to look into its demand of regularising the temporary employees of Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council.
Our stand is very clear. We will not move (if they continue with agitation), state Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen told mediapersons at the state secretariat on Saturday.
The state government had assured the GJM of looking into its demand of making temporary employees of the Hill Council permanent as early as possible. But more they agitate, the more it will get delayed, Sen said.
Stating that work for various schemes of the Hill Council was being stalled due to bandhs and agitation,Sen was critical of the GJM workers gheraoing the Darjeeling district magistrate on Thursday.
Whether all 6,000 temporary employees of the Hill Council would be made permanent,he said: All of them will not be made permanent. The government is looking into how many of them can be made permanent.
The GJM had organised a 24-hour bandh on Friday over the issue. The general secretary of the outfit,Roshan Giri had alleged that the state government did precious little to accord them permanent status by November 17,2009 as promised.
