The ABG Shipyard had earlier approached the High Court complaining that they could not continue operations at the Haldia dock due to “law and order problem”. Justice Dipankar Dutta then directed the District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police of East Midnapore to ensure that disruptive activities,if any,by any individual, group or section does not hinder cargo handling operations at the two berths. To achieve the same, temporary police guards shall be deployed at the expense of the petitioners.

The High Court also said that trade union activities of the retrenched worker would be entitled to be carried out from a distance of 100 meters from the entry gates of Haldia dock.

After the order,ABG had deposited Rs.17.5 lakh with the district administration for deployment of police pickets. But the situation has remained the same.
