On a day when state Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen visited Jhargram and claimed the state government is doing all it can to bring back normalcy in the area,Maoists killed two local youths brutally, chopping their fingers off before hacking them and shooting them dead.
Police have identified the victims as Kaushik Dutta (35) and his friend Paban Mahato (32). We have sent the two bodies for postmortem, said West Midnapore Superintendent of Police Manoj Verma.
The bodies were lying on the metal road at Bandhgora under Jhargram police station. Posters,in the name of CPI (Maoist),were found at the site, claiming the two were punished because they worked as police informers and helped the CPM. The fingers were found chopped off and the bodies bore stab wounds and bullet injuries.
The district Trinamool Congress, however, claimed the slain men were its supporters and were killed by the CPM cadres,a charge denied by the latter.
According to the police,Kaushik,a casual worker at the Manikpara Electric Office, and his friend Paban were abducted by Maoists and Gana Militia (Peoples Army) members from Lalgeria on Friday.
In a separate incident, another body was spotted near Chandabila under Kotowali police station area today. However, the body is yet to be recovered.
Meanwhile, the home secretary held meetings with the district officials after which he said the inquiry report on Silda EFR camp attack would be completed soon.
Once we reach Kolkata,we will start filing the report on Silda, said Sen,who was accompanied by ADG CID Raj Kanojia, who is also part of the committee probing the lapses that led to the Silda incident. Sen also visited Manikpara police camp and Beltolla CRPF camp. We are trying our best to bring back normalcy in the area. The recurring bandhs and the violence are hitting the common people hard, he said.
Meanwhile,in the Jhargram-Lalgarh belt, most of the shops and business establishments remained closed in response to the PCAPAs call for an indefinite strike.
