Media aligned with CPM to unleash violence: Abhishek Banerjee

In the similar vein, state minister Partha Chatterjee accused the Opposition of trying to destroy the democratic setup of the state.

THE ruling Trinamool Congress Tuesday sought to wipe its hand clean of the violence during the election to Bidhannanagar municipal corporation in which many journalists were brutally assaulted and instead put the blame on the media, which it claimed, has joined hands with the CPM.

“Those who are crying foul over violence and malpractices in polls should remember how the TMC had by a huge margin won both Lok Sabha polls last year and Assembly bypolls a few months ago, which were held under the supervision of central forces,” Abhishek Banerjee, TMC leader and nephew of party chief Mamata Banerjee, said here.

The Diamond Harbour MP was addressing a gathering after he along with several other party leaders took a protest march from College Square to Dorina Crossing against the alleged conspiracy of the Opposition parties – CPM, BJP and Congress – to taint the reputation of the state government and create a political disturbance in the state ahead of next year’s Assembly election.

“CPM has been rejected by the people. But they are yet to learn a lesson. It is our duty to unmask them and expose them before the people,” Abhishek said.
Claiming that it was a sign of “political bankruptcy” of CPM that “they have taken to pelting police with bricks and resorting to violence,” Abhishek said, “They want to destabilise the state in connivance with a section of media. But the media must remember that neither Mamata Banerjee nor TMC is a product of the media. Mamata Banerjee is a product born out of mass movements. So, as long as the masses are there, Mamata Banerjee can’t be wiped out”.

In the similar vein, state minister Partha Chatterjee accused the Opposition of trying to destroy the democratic setup of the state. “They are unable to stand the development the state is witnessing at the moment. TMC doesn’t believe in politics of violence,” he added.

Another minister Firhad Hakim too attacked the media and claimed that every time “there had been an attack on democracy, it is the TMC that came out to oppose”. Claiming that CPM is trying to gain ground by levelling mindless allegations, he said “Mamata Banerjee lives in the heart of eight crore people of Bengal”. Subrata Bakshi said every time Mamata wanted them to hit the streets, they would come out in thousands again and again.
