On a Song

“Initially,I was nervous because I was to sing with Shankar. But then everything went well with God’s grace,” she says,pointing out to the mic where she recorded her first song. Even though Alyssa grew up in the company of music stalwarts,her brother Shane and she don’t really have many friends from the industry. “We were always on our own. While growing up I listened to a lot of Western music. I joined Carnatic music classes,but was never regular. I can play the piano but not the way pianists do. I composed my first song when I was in Class VIII sitting in my drawing room. I am more of an instinctive musician,” she says. However,now she has resumed her piano classes. “I practise regularly,” she says.

With the club number—which features Deepika Padukone dancing ecstatically— already topping the music charts,Alyssa is sure to be flooded with more offers. Then there’s also her impeccable musical pedigree. “I honestly haven’t planned anything yet; for me it is God who plans. I don’t want to be restricted to Bollywood. I have always considered music to possess healing power and that’s the kind I want to focus on,” she says earnestly. But is all the adulation a bit too much to handle? “I don’t think anyone knows yet that I have sung for KCK,because even in college I haven’t really told anyone,except a few close friends,” she smiles. And the dynasty starts.
