Despite their differences in seat-sharing for the upcoming municipal polls, allies Trinamool and Congress today jointly met Governor M K Narayanan on the issue of political violence in the state and submitted a memorandum after which they held a press conference at the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, attacking the Left Front.
Trinamools Partho Chatterjee, who has no connection with the KMC,also rushed to accompany state Congress working president Subrata Mukherjee, who along with Javed Khan, leader of Opposition at the KMC,addressed the press. CLP leader Manas Bhuniya and state Congress working president Pradip Bhattacharjee were also in attendance.
We jointly demanded that the Central government take immediate action to restore normalcy in Bengal. Hundreds of Trinamool and Congress workers have been killed by armed CPM cadres in the state. The government has no moral right to stay in power anymore, said Chatterjee. Bhuniya threatened a statewide agitation.
Mukherjee alleged the KMC budget passed this year by the Left-ruled board was illegal, done as it was in the absence of the Opposition. They do the same thing at the state Assembly. They use their number to get legislations passed, he alleged.
Meanwhile, the civic body today paid tribute to late Jyoti Basu by naming Eastern Metropolitan Bypass after him.
