Ready to revoke expulsion of 14 students, process to start today: SRFTI

A day after allegedly being denied entry to the campus, Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) director Debamitra Mitra held a meeting with agitating students on Thursday. At the meeting, which continued till late evening, both parties decided to hold internal meetings every fortnight to look into their demands. Mitra told The Indian Express that they were ready to revoke the expulsion of 14 woman students and the process will begin on Friday.

“We had a very long meeting with the students today where we discussed their demands. We have decided to hold internal academic meetings with them every 15 days and will look into their demands. We have also said that we need to follow certain rules to revoke our decision to expel 14 female students and we should be allowed to do that. If everything goes fine, the process will begin tomorrow,” she told the newspaper.

Members of the student body, who were busy attending a general body meeting, could not be reached for comment. However, sources said the students are likely to decide to call off their agitation during the meeting.
