Repolling in 15 booths on May 10

The Election Commission has ordered repolling in 15 booths in West Bengal on May 10. The booths are located in four districts under six Lok Sabha constituencies.

“There are two booths in Jangipur,five in Howrah,two in Uluberia,three in Serampore,two in Burdawan East and one in Asansol,” said Chief Electoral Officer Debashish Sen.

At Khargram in Jangipur constituency from where External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee is seeking re-election one person was killed in a clash. Repolling has been ordered in booth number 135 of Khargram. In Amta under Uluberia constituency,CPM supporter Shaikh Manwar Jamadar (20) was shot dead allegedly by Congress supporters after the polling.

Repolling has been ordered in booth number 91 and 101 in Uluberia.

After the first phase in the state,Sen had ordered re-polling in six booths — two each in Jhargram,Bishnupur and Darjeeling Lok Sabha seats on Sunday.

“Repolling has been ordered on various grounds.

In some cases,violence was reported in booths,in others EVM machines were smashed. A scrutiny has also revealed that voter list did not tally with the vote count in the EVM,” said Sen.

He did not comment on the CPM demand to order repolling in 58 booths of Nandigram.
