India are now under threat of losing both Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir for the second leg of the tour comprising a one-off T20 followed by five ODIs. Gambhir fell backwards onto his head, trying to catch Kevin Pietersen during the second day’s play at The Oval. He suffered concussion and was taken to hospital for a scan. Though Gambhir came out to bat at No. 8 during India’s first innings,he was visibly in discomfort.

Sehwag, who missed the first two Tests after having a shoulder surgery,is once again facing stiffness in his problem area. According to sources,he aggravated the injury while fielding at The Oval. He also had to call on the physio during the second innings. The BCCI is awaiting the team physio’s report on both openers. According to sources, the names of Shikhar Dhawan,Manoj Tiwary and Ajinkya Rahane might be considered as replacements for the injured duo.
