The TMC and the Left Front Friday announced candidates for the West Bengal Assembly bypolls and the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections, respectively.

The ruling TMC will field actor-turned-politician Sayantika Bandyopadhyay and Reyat Hossain Sarkar for the bypolls in Baranagar and Bhagawangola, respectively.

The TMC had fielded Bandyopadhyay earlier from Bankura in the 2021 Assembly elections but she lost to BJP’s Niladri Shelhar. Sources alleged that Bandopadhyay had walked away from TMC’s March 10 ‘Jana Garjan Sabha’ at Kolkata’s Brigade Ground after her name didn’t feature in the lists of candidates announced for the Lok Sabha elections by the ruling party.
