TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee Wednesday reacted sharply to the arrest of AAP leader Sanjay Singh in Delhi excise policy case and questioned why there were raids by central probe agencies in BJP-ruled states.

“There are no ED raids in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, or any other BJP-ruled states. Have you heard of ED raids in Uttar Pradesh? Prime Minister Narendra Modi is only going after Opposition parties and Opposition-ruled states because he cannot fight them politically,” said Banerjee.

The Diamond Harbour MP also targeted PM Modi over the searches conducted by the Delhi Police on Tuesday at 30 locations connected with NewsClick and its journalists in a case filed under the anti-terror law UAPA.

“A Prime Minister who doesn’t have the courage and might to face the media and answer their questions talks about New India… Modi’s New India is an India where killers and rapists are garlanded, and felicitated in public programmes while honest journalists asking the right questions are being wrongly framed under UAPA…I believe this tyranny will end and people will give a befitting reply when they exercise their voting rights,” he said.
