20 monkeys found dead in Bulandshahar

Twenty monkeys were found dead in a roadside pit in Sikanderabad area of Bulandshahar district on Friday night.

Twenty monkeys were found dead in a roadside pit in Sikanderabad area of Bulandshahar district on Friday night. Angry locals staged a demonstration outside the police station when it was disclosed that the monkeys had died in a water tank of an under-construction nursing home and the bodies were later dumped in the pit.

Subsequently,an employee of the hospital,Ajay Kumar,was arrested on Saturday and a case was registered against him under Section 2/3 Wildlife Protection Act.

The postmortem report said drowning caused the death of the monkeys,said SHO Sikanderabad Alok Singh.

Bulandshahar SSP SK Bhagat said: “The incident came to light late on Friday night when some residents spotted bodies of monkeys lying in a pit on Bhatpura Road.”

“Primary investigation revealed that the monkeys were found dead in a water tank on the terrace of an under- construction hospital,whose employees later dumped the bodies in the pit,” Bhagat said.

Singh said Kumar was supervising the construction work and had asked the labourers to dump the bodies.
