2010 panchayat roll data to aid EC in updating rural list

For updation of its electoral roll in rural areas of Uttar Pradesh,the Election Commission of India will take reference of State Election Commission’s electoral roll that was prepared for panchayat elections last year.

For updation of its electoral roll in rural areas of Uttar Pradesh,the Election Commission of India (ECI) will take reference of State Election Commission’s (SEC) electoral roll that was prepared for panchayat elections last year.

Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will identify the names which are registered in panchayat electoral roll but are missing in CEO’s electoral roll. The BLOs will have to ensure registration of such voters – if found eligible – in ECI’s electoral roll during the summary revision that will be conducted between September 29 and January 2.

The BLOs in rural areas will compare these updated data with the electoral rolls of panchayats that were updated last year. The officers will visit the addresses of those names that are registered in panchayat electoral roll but are absent in ECI’s roll. Such persons would be provided Form-6 to apply for registration in ECI’s electoral roll if they fulfill the criteria of the Election Commission.

During the summary revision,applications for voters registration and correction in electoral roll would be received only between September 29 and October 29 at polling stations,voter registration centres and educational institutions. Those who are going to attain the age of 18 years on January 1,2012 could also apply for their registration in electoral roll. From October 30,the BLOs will start door-to-door survey. The final electoral roll would be published on January 2,2012.

From October 7 to 10,open meetings would be organised in gram sabha and municipal wards. Draft electoral roll published on September 29 would be read before the people. Any person who does not find his name in the electoral roll can apply for registration there.

Special voter registration campaign would be organised on October 9,16 and 23 at polling centres when booth level agents of political parties,anganbadi workers and Lekhpals would be present there to receive the applications.
