Hundreds of Samajwadi Party workers and onlookers thronged 5 Kalidas Marg, the official residence of the chief minister, when Akhilesh Yadav reached there today.

Party officials said it was not an official ‘Janta Darbar’,but people turned up in good numbers to meet the new CM and submit their applications.

Akhilesh reached the 5 Kalidas Marg residence at 12.30 pm. Senior cabinet minister and his uncle Shivpal Yadav and SP spokesperson Rajendra Choudhary were present on the occasion.

The CM first interacted with the staff at the residence. Then he turned to several groups of party workers and people from different part of the state waiting to meet him.

Jai Kishan,a farmer from Kushinagar, arrived in Lucknow to complain about an erroneous entry in the revenue records about his land. “In Lucknow,I took a chance to meet the CM and no one stopped me. I have given my application to him and he has assured me that it will be corrected,” he said.

Some people came just to greet Akhilesh and sing paeans to him. Sukhram Singh and Surendra Yadav arrived from Bhadohi on cycle to convey their greetings. Members of UP Backward Organisations gave a memorandum about their demands for better facilities for backward classes.

“The rush was due to the easy approach of CM Akhilesh. Kalidas Marg was out of bound for common man. Now it has been thrown open for the people. People have come with aspirations for the new government,” said Choudhary.

He said that soon formalities for an official janta darbar,a practise where people can meet the CM directly, will be drawn and the system will be started at the CM’s residence. The practise was followed by former CM Mulayam Singh Yadav but was stopped during the Mayawati regime.
