Auction put off for BSP MLA’s land

The Hardoi district administration on Saturday postponed the auction of the land belonging to BSP legislator Satish Chandra Verma, who had failed to repay Rs 26.7 lakh to a bank.

The Hardoi district administration on Saturday postponed the auction of the land belonging to BSP legislator Satish Chandra Verma, who had failed to repay Rs 26.7 lakh to a bank. The administration had earlier fixed August 29 to auction the land if Verma did not pay the amount.

The auction was postponed after the cooperative tribunal cancelled the order passed by the additional registrar (cooperative) to auction the land. The tribunal also directed the additional registrar to hear the Mallawan MLA and decide the matter within three months. “We postponed the auction after receiving the tribunal court’s order,” said Hardoi District Magistrate B Singh. The district administration had asked the Nagar Vikas Sahkari Bank, from which the MLA had taken the loan,to come with all details.

Earlier, the MLA filed an appeal before the tribunal mentioning that the additional registrar (cooperative) passed the recovery order without hearing him.

On October 21,1999,Verma took the loan from the bank in the name of his firm,Good Refractories Limited, but stopped paying the installments after two years.

The bank then moved the registrar of the Cooperative Societies for arbitration. The society called the legislator four times, but he never turned up.

Thereafter, the registrar passed a recovery order. Verma challenged the order in the tribunal, but his appeal was dismissed.

In 2006,the bank wrote to the Hardoi DM,SDM and tehsildar, requesting them to help in recovering the money. After no one came to the bank’s help,it moved the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court, which ordered the district officials to auction Verma’s property if he did not repay the amount.
