Boat sinks in Ghagra,six feared drowned

Six persons were feared drowned when a boat carrying them overturned in Ghagra river in Bahraich on Thursday evening.

Six persons were feared drowned when a boat carrying them overturned in Ghagra river in Bahraich on Thursday evening.

Among the seven,five are children between 6 and 9 years of age. Ten persons,who were also travelling in same boat,managed to swim to safety.

Divers from PAC and Sashastra Seema Bal have been deployed to trace missing persons. The district administration said the incident occurred because the boat was carries passengers beyond capacity.

Bahraich District Magistrate Kinjal Singh said search operations for the missing were still on.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Navneet Singh Chahal said victims,all from Naubasta village,were returning home from their fields across the river when the incident occurred.

He said the river divides the village in two parts,with houses on one side and the fields on the other.
