BSP woos traders, offers them slice of power

The Bahujan Samaj Party appealed to the traders to join the party at a convention organised by the Uttar Pradesh Udyog Vyapar Sangathan in Lucknow on Saturday.

The Bahujan Samaj Party appealed to the traders to join the party at a convention organised by the Uttar Pradesh Udyog Vyapar Sangathan (UPUVS) in Lucknow on Saturday.

The participation of several important BSP leaders at the convention clearly indicated the party’s concern of its traders vote bank.

In the recent past, the party had already expelled two prominent leaders of the trader community — Banwari Lal Kanchal and Sandeep Bansal — from its primary membership.

Speaking on the occasion, Panchayti Raj Minister and party’s state president,Swami Prasad Maurya, said the party will give a chance to the traders in the next Assembly elections.

According to him, other political parties like SP,BJP and Congress ruled the state in the past but have only exploited the traders and have never gave them a position in the government.

“Behanji appointed two leaders from the traders’ community — Naresh Agarwal and Dr Akhilesh Das Gupta — as the national general secretary of the party and made them Rajya Sabha members. Only BSP has taken such step for the traders,” said Maurya.

The Minister for Institutional Finance,Stamp and Registration,Nand Gopal Nandi, said: “Only BSP has given respect to the traders. BSP made me a minister when I did not have much experience in politics. Other parties have never done so till date.”

State president of UPUVS Rajkumar Agrawal demanded that the state government should initiate steps for abrogation of Section 3/7 of Essential Commodities Act. Traders also demanded a ban on mall culture in UP. They demanded that the Central government should provide retailers loans at reasonable interest rates and subsidy on food items.

State PWD minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui said: “The policies made so far by the Congress and BJP governments at the Centre were anti-traders. The current Central government has not taken a single decision in the traders’ interest.”

Siddiqui assured the traders that he would request the chief minister to appoint an officer to redress the problems of the traders every month.

Naresh Agarwal, who was elected to the Rajya Sabha recently, requested the BSP state president to give opportunity to traders to contest on BSP symbol in the upcoming panchayat elections. “The traders will support BSP to make Behanji the next Prime Minister,” he said.
